Our Services: Infrastructure Services

Portal Services:

Portal services are web-based, user-friendly interfaces that let users and administrators query, update, and modify information. Different types of people can benefit from different types of portal services.

Typical users can:

  • Change personal information
  • Retrive forgotten passwords
  • Look up:
    • Other users (white pages)
    • UMHS services (yellow pages)
    • Services and users listed by location (green pages

System managers can:

  • Create and change the policies that automate workflow
  • Create and manage ad-hoc groups

Help desk workers can:

  • Reset passwords
  • Aid callers having software or printer issues
  • Restore access to locked accounts

Account administrators can:

  • Create user accounts
  • Set up services that automatically create accounts

Secure Logging and Auditing:

We have the ability to keep records of all entities, the data that they access or modify, and the time that access or modification took place. This in turn gives us the ability to track specific events within the system. For example, a user may believe that their account has been compromised. When they report the issue, we can review an audit database and see what changes were made to the identity—as well as what triggered them.

Monitoring and Reporting:

We can also take audit data that we collected and analyze it, which allows us to report on the types of events occuring within the system. For example, there may be a need to create reports on the number of accounts created, deleted, or modified.

We also monitor the network to ensure that we have immediate notification in the event of service degradation or outages.

Preproduction Environment:

As new versions of applications, patches, updates, and so on become available, they need to be applied to production systems with as little risk to production process as possible. We provide a preproduction environment where testing of these new components can occur. Pre-production databases closely match the production environment, having the same architecture, services, configurations, and patch levels.

Infrastructure Technologies:

We use a variety of technologies to make this all possible, including:

  • E-directory (E-Dir)
  • Novell Identity Manager (IDM)
  • Nsure Audit
  • SiteScope
  • Extend Composer
  • Kerberos
  • LDAP V.3
