Our Mission:

IDMT will provide an integrated system of business processes, policies and technologies that enable organizations to facilitate and control their users' access to online applications and resources yet protect confidential information. Our identity management architecture (IMA) will ensure that the updating and retrieval of identity-related information is as quick, easy, and secure as possible.

Our Current Focus:

IDMT is currently focused on the processes that surround On-Boarding for New Employees. We are spending a great deal of time on how information flows though the institution with regard to an identity. IDMT is interviewing all areas of the organization and tracking all the different processes and forms that information comes to us for a new identity. All of this information is being gathered and analyzed in order to stream-line the processing of New Identities as well as reduce the lead-time required for a new identity.

Expect to see announcements from the IDMT team very soon for the delivery of several enhancements. We will be delivering a new Group tool to allow a Group Manager to manage their own group. In addition to this tool the Student Portal has been renamed the Identity Registration System (IRS). Along with the new name will be several exciting new enhancements.

The flow chart below outlines the On-Boarding process and is an example of some of the detailed analysis that the IDM Team is currently engaged in.

Some common tasks that we perform:

  • Creating a digital identity for every person in the organization (which includes name, location, User ID, and other information)
  • Monitoring other computing systems to see if any part of a digital identity has changed--and making updates accordingly
  • Validating, or proving, identities (making sure people are who they say they are)
  • Determining what computing resources each digital identity should be able to access
  • Determining what level of access within a resource a digital identity should have
  • Connecting other computer systems with our identity repositories and
providing a means for them to communicate with each other
